Dear Members and Friends of CTC:
In the spirit of Purim, there’s good news and there’s bad news.
First the bad news. We were very excited a couple of months ago when we began our “Chance to Win the Artscroll Talmud” fundraiser. We had visions of building our new shul with the proceeds from this raffle alone. Can you imagine?! Who wouldn’t give anything, even, we thought, many would donate more than the retail value of the shas itself, just to own the coveted Daf Yomi version of the Artscroll Talmud. Sadly we were only partially correct. That is, there were many, if not most, who wouldn’t give anything. So, we’ve had to scale back our expectations. No longer are we trying to pay for our new building from the raffle, but, and we think more realistically, to cover this month’s electric bill would be nice.
Now for the good news. You know, we tried hard to find some, but we just couldn’t. There’s just no good news. For us, that is. But for you, it is all good news. That is, since we sold so few tickets, we were forced to extend the drawing until Purim. With so few tickets sold, your chances of winning are huge. This is really the opportunity of a lifetime. For just $100 you can have a legitimately great chance to win the entire Talmud. I know, you’re saying, “What am I going to do with a set of Artscroll gemaras?” Well, you could study it?! Or, if you insist on leaving it sit on the bookshelf, they do a fantastic job of collecting dust. Think of them as a Talmudic air filter.
Seriously, the bottom line is that for just $100 you can have a chance to become proficient in Aramaic grammar so the next time you take a trip to Babylonia, Mesopotamia, or any other vacation hot spot, you will be able to confidently change dollars for zuzim, and not worry you are getting ripped off.
Take advantage of this great opportunity. We’re hoping you can help us in our quest to pay the light bill. As it says in Megillas Esther, “LaYehudim haysa ora…” (The Jews all had light…). Well, we are no different. We hope you found this enlightening.
Warmest regards,
Rabbi Yaakov Rich
