To our neighbors and friends in the Far North Dallas Eruv:
Baruch HaShem, our Far North Dallas Eruv community has enjoyed many years of peace and security. Unfortunately, we are living in a time when antisemitic incidents are on the rise nationwide. A few weeks ago, neo-Nazis staged a vile, aggressive demonstration outside an Orlando, Florida Chabad house. Additionally, several antisemitic organizations declared February 25, 2023, a “National Day of Hate” against the American Jewish community.
In light of these events, we must remain vigilant as a community and remember that we can never take our security for granted.
Starting this Shabbos, March 17, 2023, you may notice a heightened police presence in our community on Friday nights and Shabbos mornings. These extra police patrols are part of the Far North Dallas Eruv Expanded Neighborhood Patrol (FNDEENP). The Far North Dallas Eruv Expanded Neighborhood Patrol is an initiative of the Jewish Federation of Greater Dallas in coordination with the Dallas Police Department’s Expanded Neighborhood Patrol program and our local shuls and institutions.
The Dallas Police Department’s Expanded Neighborhood Patrol program allows neighborhood organizations to hire uniformed off-duty police officers to patrol specific areas during specific times.
The FNDEENP will operate Friday nights from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Shabbos mornings from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. During these times, our community will have a dedicated Dallas police officer, in a squad car, patrolling the streets and neighborhoods surrounding our shuls and homes. This will not only give Dallas Police a set of “eyes and ears” in our community but will also provide us with a first responder, located in our neighborhood, who can be on the scene quickly if, G-d forbid, the need should ever arise.
As we advance, this program will require financial support from our local shuls and institutions. We urge all residents of the Far North Dallas Eruv to contribute to the FNDEENP. Please respond to this email for more information on how you can help to make this program a success.
Remember to wave “hello” to our patrol officer when you see him and be sure to let him know that his presence is greatly appreciated!
