In deference to the community-wide memorial service for the Jewish victims of the recent terrorist massacre in Mumbai, India, our regularly scheduled Shabbos Kitchen class is postponed until next week. We encourage everyone to attend the service tonight. Please read the joint message from Chabad and the Jewish Federation of Greater Dallas, wherein the details of the service are mentioned.
Chabad Houses of DFW and the Jewish Federation of Greater Dallas Join Together to Mourn for Those Murdered and Injured in Mumbai, India
By now, you have heard that as part of the horrific attacks of terror in Mumbai last week, the Chabad House was targeted as a central Jewish institution. A young Brooklyn Rabbi, Rabbi Gavriel Holtzberg, and his wife, Rivkah—along with other Jews, were murdered defending this Jewish center.
Commentators suggested that the terrorists’ daring was palpable, so much so that many people have been calling this “India’s 9/11”. Rabbi Gavriel Holtzberg and his wife Rivka went to Mumbai as shelichim of the Chabad movement. Their only purpose was to spread the light of Judaism to the small Jewish community in Mumbai, providing Torah study, Shabbat meals and a haven for all manner of Jews who found themselves in this city. They, along with their two year old son Moshe, had literally created an island of hope and comfort—an or l’goyim: a light unto the nations.
Although this tragedy occurred far from Dallas, the pain is felt right here in the heart of Texas.Today we react to this murderous rampage in Mumbai as an opportunity to dedicate and rededicate ourselves to shine the light of freedom and kindness in the darkest places during the darkest of times. We implore all communities, religions and nationalities to join us in encouraging peace, love and acts of kindness to the world.
Please join us for a special memorial service this Tuesday evening, December 2nd at 7:00 p.m. at the Chabad of Dallas 6710 Levelland Road, Dallas, TX 75252. Carol Aaron, Chairman of the Jewish Federation of Greater Dallas, will speak and offer condolences on behalf of our community.
