GIVING WISELY
Vaad HaTzedaka Guidelines for the Dallas Jewish Community
To the Esteemed Members of the Dallas Jewish Community,
As our community continues to grow, we are blessed to welcome many worthy causes and individuals seeking assistance from our generous tzibbur. At the same time, it has become increasingly difficult for individuals to properly verify the legitimacy and need of every collector who comes to our city.
For this reason, the Dallas Rabbinical Council wishes to remind the community about the important work of the Vaad HaTzedaka and, specifically, the efforts of Rabbi Zecharia Sionit, who carefully vets and investigates every meshulach (tzedakah collector) who comes to Dallas seeking communal support.
After reviewing the credentials, references, and legitimacy of each individual, Rabbi Sionit issues an official approval letter to those deemed appropriate recipients of communal tzedaka. The letter clearly states that the collector has been approved to collect in Dallas from Date A through Date B.
We strongly ask community members to request to see this approval letter before giving tzedaka to any collector, and to contribute only to those carrying this certificate.
This system protects both the integrity of our community’s tzedaka and the dignity of legitimate collectors who truly depend upon communal support.
May Hashem bless our community with continued generosity, wisdom, achdus, and the merit of supporting those truly in need in accordance with the values of our holy Torah.
Respectfully,
The Dallas Rabbinical Council
