Rabbi Lazer Brody was born in Washington, D.C. in 1949. Upon completing his agriculture studies at the University of Maryland, he moved to Israel in 1970, joined the Israel Defense Forces regular army and served in an elite infantry unit. Â Following the Israel-Lebanon conflict of 1982, Brody left his mountaintop farm to study Torah in Jerusalem. Â Nine years of intensive Talmudic, ethics, and legal studies, led to his rabbinical ordination in 1992.
He subsequently furthered his postgraduate learning as the understudy of the famed Melitzer Rebbe in Ashdod. Â In 1998, he became the “Rosh Kollel”, or Dean of a rabbinical seminary in Ashdod for Baalei Teshuva, or newly observant Jews. Â In 2005, Brody turned his energies to spiritual outreach, spreading the teachings of Rebbe Nachman of Breslev all over the English-speaking world. Brody has translated all of Rabbi Shalom Arush’s major works including the international bestseller, “The Garden of Emuna.” His English CDs – translations and adaptations of Rav Arush’s emuna lessons – now circulate worldwide in over 100 titles and more than a million copies.
Rabbi Brody is also the English-language editor of Breslev Israel’s highly popular English-language website at www.breslev.co.il, and the founder and director of Emuna Outreach. He hosts his own radio show – Lazer Beams – on Israel National Radio.
